BASICS AND DEFAULT VALUES FOR THE Fedora 9 - bagvapp APPLIANCE: This appliance has been altered somewhat from the original including creating default user (bagside) and installing VMware-tools e.x.p-84113 plus the flash and mplayer plugins for Firefox. The kernel-devel as well as some dev-tools has also been installed in order to install/compile modules and drivers. The xorg.conf jas been specifically designed to work with the distro. The install has been fully updated with patches and fixes on the 6th of April 2008. Minor visual changes has been done mainly to suit me when I created the appliance. Version= Fedora 9 RC 'Sulphur' - GNOME 2.22 Desktop. Linux filesystem: ext3 Kernel= 2.6.25-1.fc9 Fedora home = "http://fedoraproject.org/" RAM= 588 (which means at least 1GB memory is recommended) ethernet0= "TRUE" ethernet0Device= "e1000" (IntelPro) ethernet0connectionType= "nat" floppy= "FALSE" serialports= "FALSE" parallellports= "FALSE" Physical CDROM drive Present= "TRUE" deviceType = "cdrom-raw" Appliance size on HD= 3.7 GB ============================ Physical Disk Size: 12 GB ======================== ----------------------------------------- |PASSWORDS: | | | |USER: bagside | |PWD: bagside | | | |USER: sudo/su | |PWD: bagside | ----------------------------------------- To be root from the commandline in bagside type "sudo" (without the "") plus your command and you will then be requested for the password which is "bagside" of course :) If you want to start the vmware-toolbox to enable copy/paste etc. launch an X terminal and type: sudo vmware-toolbox The toolbox can be launched as a normal user or root but if you want to advanced work like 'shrinking' and scripts you will need to be root. The *.vmx file can be opened with a regular texteditor like notepad or whatever and some parameters can be changed (like allocated memory). If you have a low-end machine you can try to set the allocated memory for the elive guest to say 216MB (always in increments of 4MB) which would allow you to run the guest on a machine with abt. 500-600MB. It will be slightly slower but should work. For ADVANCED editing and explanations on the *.vmx file go here: http://sanbarrow.com/vmx.html USB-Periferals: USB sticks and printers have been enabled but you have to configure those individually on your machine. To launch the periferal it is usually a good idea to plug it in when the focus is in the guest. For instance if the focus is in the guest unplug and then plug the printer back in and then go to the printer controll to add your printer.
